Deepa Anappara – “In the Dark Places and in the Light:” Rethinking the Trauma Plot (July 2024)

$5.00

How can we tell stories about trauma such that a character is not defined by it? Is it possible for trauma narratives to hold joy, laughter, and lightness? Deepa Anappara draws on responses to her own first novel as well as works by Maali Almeida, Madeleine Thien, and others to look at how employing lightness in fiction can be an act of resistance and hope.
